Harry Styles and his girlfriend, model Taylor Russell, were spotted taking a cold dip in London, England. He inexplicably wore a knit beanie and socks along with his tiny bathing suit.
The whole "polar plunge" thing has become huge here over the past few years (like loads of people do it regularly, even weekly), and almost everyone wears a hat and socks and sometimes gloves while doing it. I assume it helps with the whole freezing thing, though it doesn't seem like it would. Socks probably also help if its slippery.
A few people I work with are into this cold water swim thing. It seems to have grown more and more popular here the last couple of years. I’ve seen pics and vids of them doing it and I have seen a few of them wearing hats and socks so I assume it’s a done thing.
I love cold swimming but I don’t think I’d love cold like this. My cold water is a natural spring that is the same temperature all year. I tried going swimming in a local river last winter. It’s one of my favorite swimming spots during the summer because it’s convenient & not crowded. I hopped in midnovember and my cocky ass lasted like 6 minutes.
I definitely find it more refreshing. I think my advantages have to do with location. The cold water tends to be fresh water swimming versus a pool. I prefer it because I feel cleaner after I’m done. I don’t like swimming in chlorine because I just feel gross when I’m done. It’s so hard on my hair and mu skin feels covered in it. I also live in texas so pool water feels like bath water once it’s july. It isn’t a relief from the heat. Nothing like jumping in a 67 degree spring.

what's the appeal of cold swimming? invigorating?
I feel like i'd be miserable. I always hate those first few moments when i get into an unheated pool and my body hasn't warmed up yet.
