Someone can correct me but I think Mo'nique always implied that because she wouldn't do the extra promo for free she got blackballed by Oprah and Tyler Perry. She says that she had done promo required for her contract but when Precious started gaining more attention, they wanted her to promote it at Cannes BUT she would have to pay for that trip. She didn't want to pay and also wanted to be with her family so she turned it down. When she won the Oscar she thanked the Academy for not paying attention to the politics which possibly alluded to issues with Oprah and Tyler. Plus she had prior issues with Oprah too.

Sounds like the right choice. It does feel like she was everywhere for a minute and then disappeared, learning that wasn't something she wanted and was her team fumbling is a bummer.
