I need to finish Priscilla which isn't bad but it's the typical emotions over words films of hers. It's def reminding of Marie Antoinette lol.

Do her movies really require a bigger budget?

She’s a nepo baby so I’m not crying precious tears for her. But, just because she is one doesn’t negate the fact that as a woman she’s getting denied the same opportunities that her brother would be given.

Also, her cousin is literally a man who acted ok in 3 films yet is a household name. Liiike.

Tbf to Nicolas he had done projects that at least were interesting enough and did well at the box office to justify funding.

Fair point. I also just saw your other comments about her dad funding her projects, so I take back everything I said!

lol i was ready to be like “guys we can acknowledge both that nepo baby privilege is real and that misogyny affects all women even privileged ones” but that detail took me out

"Another issue they faced was being unable to use Elvis Presley’s music in the project. The Marie Antoinette director originally wanted to have three of the King of Rock and Roll’s songs, but she knew there was a chance she wouldn’t be able to get the rights. So, she turned to another legendary musician’s tune instead."

I haven't finished watching the movie but his music not being there does feel weird. Didn't Priscilla have control of the estate? Or was Lisa the one who probably blocked it?

the majority of the estate is owned by a branding corporation now and they were the ones who blocked the use of his music in priscilla. the family only has control over 15%

She hasn’t made anything good since Virgin Suicides.
Maybe her films would be better if she cast people of color.
Pricilla was a snooze fest.

I gotta admit I’m a huge fan of her work but I’ve definitely lost interest as the casts remained all white.

I still remember watching The Beguiled and loving it, not knowing it was a remake & based on a book. My interest in her movies nose dived for sure when I learned she cut the only Black character.

Like sure her next movie had Rashida as the lead but like, next to Bill Murray so definitely passed on that.

Tbh with how she treated Japanese people in Lost in Translation she can just continue making her white twee fables for her white twee audience. Like I don’t wanna know how Sofia Coppola would fail a Black character tbh
