In the Hbomberguy vid he mentioned he said he had to move to Toronto to make his films (which still haven't appeared FYI).

Also I don't expect people to know this but Nova Scotia (where he was from) actually has an indie film industry. That would have been a red flag to me that he was lying actually because there's no way he couldn't get what he needed there and "had" to move to Toronto. It would have been cheaper to find a Torontonian actor and fly them out then move to Toronto for MONTHS doing fuck all for production.
