Zack Snyder gonna Snyder as 'Rebel Moon' directors cut is "true" version

Dec 19, 2023 18:00

Zack Snyder describes his director’s cut of ‘REBEL MOON - PART 1’ as a “completely different movie”

He adds that he wanted the main film R-rated but at this “sort of scale & cost, you say, ‘it’s not 100% responsible to have that demand.’”

are people no longer good enough filmmakers to make films under 3hrs be great movies? is it hiring bad editors? ego to not hire and/or trust editors to pare down the runtime?

Zack hasn't believed in a 2hr movie in like 15 years.

People wanna argue but I'll always say 3hr+ films are self-indulgent and an insecurity with editing on the director's part.

Some 3hr films are fine like Oppenheimer that you don't feel the runtime (cause the pacing and Nolan aren't interested in wasting time) and then you have films like KOTFM, which is a good film but I remember hour 2 dragging itself into hour 3 which at least picks up.

This 100%. Rarely it is warranted, but there are some exceptions. Even The English Patient isn’t 3hrs (and I could’ve easily watched another 30min of that.)
KOTFM could’ve easily been edited down by at least 30min

I don’t know why they keep throwing all this money at him. The reviews for this are scathing. His cut, like the JL one, will make difference

I don’t know this man or really keep up with him but I feel like some of the critics hate on him for general principle or maybe some anti Snyder grievance because there’s no way that “this movie” is 0% for all 23 “Top Critics” in comparison to any number of bad movies released this year alone.

I can totally believe that. Cause the biggest criticism about him is his style over substance at times. GREAT visual effects but the plots can be meh.

I find the visual effects are the worst part about his style … nothing ever looks real with strange color grading and everything is clearly filmed in front of a green screen. It always gives me PS game vibes

idk about that, critics were favorable towards Army of the Dead and his cut of Justice League.

I generally hate when movies are too long and there are additional cuts and things. But when it's a streaming movie, you can watch it from the comfort of your own home, and you don't have to pay any extra to watch it in parts, I'm much more lenient towards things like this.

Although I do have to wonder at what point someone at Netflix should insist it's marketed as a mini-series instead of a movie.
