God. I hope it isn’t insensitive to ask, are there a lot of cases (non-celeb) of such late diagnoses of cancer and it killing people quicker? Or just a coincidence.

I think of the NHS here where it seems difficult to get check ups or appointments and fear stuff like this happening.

RIP to him, he was an excellent actor.

I’m not an expert but I think lung cancer is particularly aggressive, my nan was diagnosed with it and passed within a month, it was a rapid deterioration unfortunately.

I’m guessing late diagnosis is typical because you generally don’t have symptoms until later stages and any symptoms that might show up earlier can be explained by other things ( ... )

his death is so shocking. he was still young.

i don't know how much of it is confirmation bias on my end, but it seems i keep hearing of people having cancer younger and younger. kate micucci (of garfunkel and oates) was diagnosed with early stage lung cancer, and she is 41 and a nonsmoker. chadwick boseman, who passed so soon and tragically. i know two women who had ovarian cancer in their 30s (one recovered, one, sadly, succumbed to it). it greatly worries me.

It’s an actual phenomenon but with younger people it’s been mostly gastrointestinal in the last few years - before you didn’t have to worry about regular screening (colonoscopies) until you were 45+, so I’m talking about people only in their 30s 🫠

The ovarian one is especially dangerous and deadly for women because when women complain of symptoms/things wrong with their body, they are usually dismissed and ignored. The cancer develops and worsens, then when it’s finally discovered, the doctor then tells the woman it’s too late now and she will die

women are often told they “just have IBS” since the symptoms are bloating and digestive problems (constipation/diarrhea)

my female primary doc told me it was just constipation issues. thankfully I kept insisting for months. it took an ultrasound to get things moving.
