Has he ever written a movie that wasn’t a coming of age story? He’s 54 and so focused on growing up he’s going to walk backwards into his own grave.

Lol at putting it this way but I actually do love the idea of coming of age stories for each new age of life, since there's always more to learn. Some of his characters are experiencing more arrested development than coming of age though, so you're definitely right.

He really struggled with White Noise so I’m interested to see if he can, as you say, make that shift into the next decade or if he needs more distance or to just get older himself.

The Bear episode centering around Cousin/Richie is prob a good recent example about how you can always grow and learn “later” in life.
