"Thor, let’s face it - it was probably the least popular franchise. I never read Thor comics as a kid. That was the comic I’d pick up and be like ‘Ugh.’ And then I did some research on it. I was still baffled by this character.” - Taika Waititi pic.twitter.com/jupkydEgge

"Taika helped breathe new life into Thor with Thor Ragnarök"

And then he smothered it to death in Love and Thunder.

Thor 1 is still my favorite Thor and Marvel movie.

I wish I like Ragnarok. I missed being part of the fandom when it came out lol but he just wouldn't let emotional moments be emotional. The end scene with Loki and Thor was nice tho.

I love Thor 1 too. Thor destorying the Bifrost bridge to save Jotenheim is one of the only scenes in all of Marvel that truly fucks me up.

Tbh I liked Taika before he imploded, but I noticed that with Hunt for the Wilderpeople, too. Every time he came close to sentiment, he’d lose his nerve and turn it into a joke.

i always find this criticism of ragnarok interesting because when i first saw it without knowing much about what to expect, i found it one of the more genuinely moving and emotionally affecting mcu movies, and much more so than either of the previous thor movies, which i found too overwrought and self-serious to connect with. interesting to see the different ways people get their emotions kindled! (my number one fave MCU movie is iron man 3, which now that i think about it also takes a kind of zippy tone but quite literally fucked my shit up so much emotionally that it legitimately changed my life. yes i know how crazy that sounds to say about iron man 3.)

"-When discussing Thor specifically he stated “I never read Thor comics as a kid. That was the comic I’d pick up and be like ‘Ugh.’ And then I did some research on it, and I read one Thor comic or 18 pages, or however long they are. I was still baffled by this character.”

I do not understand directors who do not keep this shit to themselves.

because these dudes are never punished for mocking the source material. “lol what comics” was practically bryan singer’s mantra, and if decades of SA allegations didn’t finally get too loud for the studios to ignore, that bitch would still be on the shortlist to direct dr strange 7 or secret wars or whatever tf is next

meanwhile, nia dacosta, an actual fan of the source material, gets scapegoated and kicked off the glass cliff

I kinda always liked the Thor movies because I prefer the more fantasy-esque, spacey MCU movies (except for Eternals), and I really liked Ragnarok, but Love and Thunder was absolutely abysmal (except for the goats lol)

directors that go out of their way to explain how theyre too cool for some genre are so annoying and boring to me
