this story is UNBELIEVABLE and one of my most favorite things to read about. The heroism of these men is so amazing. It blows my mind that Nando and Canessa literally walked up and over one of the tallest peaks in the Andes in basically nothing but street clothes and saved their friends.

I highly highly recommend Nando Parrado's book Miracle in the Andes: 72 Days on the Mountain and My Long Trek Home. It's incredibly touching

Yeah, the country a film represents at the Oscars has nothing to do with where the movie is set. In this case, it's likely Spain because the film is in Spanish*, the director is from Spain, and the financial backing is likely from Spain as well.

For example, the Oscars International Film submission from Britain this year is Jonathan Glazer's The Zone of Interest, which was shot in Germany and Poland, and is in German and Polish. But Jonathan Glazer is English, and the film had financing from the US, England and Poland.

*I only mention this (obvs many countries speak Spanish) because I think it can strengthen a submission for a country - for example, France submitted The Taste of Things this year instead of the widely expected Anatomy of a Fall, even though both were eligible, and some theorized this was in part because the dialogue in Anatomy was a good mix of French and English, and France preferred to nominate something that was entirely in French.

Hmmm. I understand the logic behind it, but I don't quite... like it.

God the French truly are the worst. It feels so wrong for the zone of interest that I think may be the favourite to win to win for the UK

Looks good! So a remake of Alive but more authentic. *pictures Ethan Hawke sawing off some frozen ass meat and chomping down. :\
