"as they have against many professional athletes and other high-profile individuals"

Well yeah, they are usually avoiding taxes lol

This part is also taking me out:
"seeking the advice of the world’s preeminent tax authorities such as PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited, who advised me from the start, and subsequently Ernst & Young Global Limited"

Girl idt a tax fraud case is the best time to promote your accountants

Does she think low-income, low net-worth, low-profile individuals, are some untapped treasure trove of individuals with massive unpaid taxes famously ignored by sympathetic tax authorities in Spain?

Second question - does she think people who recognize the name of her accountants are going to make a favorable brand association? Completely unfounded hunch, but I'm guessing most people who know PWC and E&Y, are not going to take their presence as some assurance their rich client was duly informed of their tax liability and strongly advised to pay it without trying to exploit cheats and loopholes. Those who know them know their main job is to help the rich avoid paying taxes in any possible way, and going to great lengths to do so. I can think of at least two scandals for each in recent years where they did wildly dishonest shit for the benefit of the ultra-wealthy.

Omg I just looked at both of their wikipedia pages, and for both, 50% or more of the text of the entire entry is dedicated to listing out their biggest scandals. How either company is allowed to continue offering any kind of accounting, audit, or financial management consulting services is laughable.

While I was determined to defend my innocence in a trial that my lawyers were confident would have ruled in my favor, I have made the decision to finally resolve this matter with the best interest of my kids at heart who do not want to see their mom sacrifice her personal well-being in this fight.

LOL

I always wonder with statements like this, if the person/people helping to craft it think it has any merit (like it will resonate with some people or convey some specific grey area that helps people reconcile her actions with her brand), or if they're just in a bind where she wants to say she's innocent, and claim her lawyers were confident she would win, so they just crafted the best nothing they could within the parameters the client set. Because... this isn't one of those where I can picture anyone reading it and thinking "oh yeah that sounds plausible" or "ok, I understand why she would do that, even if she was confident she was going to win".

Funny. I read some tabloid news that the school in Miami that her kids attend allegedly might expel them because of absence since they're often travelling with her.

Shakifans on Twitter were rejoicing saying she’s finally going to have to go on tour to make money to pay the treasury lol!!

I missed her the last time she went on tour so I’ll be there for sure

I could see her intentionally delaying the album release because she refuses to give even one more cent to Spain, so she’d have to wait for the tax year to be over on December 31st…

I’ll forgive her mess if she gives us an actual, consistent body of songs and a good tour next year!

The amount of random singles she already released without an album, at this point the album may consist of like 2 songs we don’t already know lol
