This is awful. The adding of Tiktok/social media makes more soulless than it needs to be.
Like the fact that the original movie had the teenagers talking on the phone, like CONFERENCE calling on LANDLINES...

Either mentioned by name or straight up shown on screen.

i mean, it takes place in current times and teens nowadays (and for the foreseeable future) communicate primarily through TT and social media. yes they spoke on landlines… because it was 2004 lol

problems with this trailer:

• 'Not your mother's Mean Girls' way to call the original audience old when many of them haven't even hit 30 yet but whatever.
• using the wrong Olivia Rodrigo song. she literally has a song called 'Ballad of a Homeschool Girl'...'All-American Bitch' would've been better too.
• basically hiding the fact that it's a musical (unless this is a covert admission that the songs from this musical are absolutely godawful, which they are), which just makes this movie seem like a bad remake that looks worse and has worse jokes than the original starring nobodies in the main cast (and either using weirdly too-famous people for the adult roles like Tina and Jon Hamm, or replacing people that were iconic in the original see trading Amy Poehler for...Busy Phillips?)
• weak, weak jokes, nothing hits.
• maybe this is a personal opinion but i don't think you can't sell this movie that hard on Renée Rapp alone, like she's just not that famous lol

I agree with all of these I was honestly excited for this too, but it doesn’t lean into the camp in a way that is should.

completely agree, especially point #2 - we need to get away from the overplayed singles!

the iconic 2000s teen movie that actually needs to be remade is twilight. YA-core is back with millenials and gen z, and with better SFX and a more consistent through-line/directing, i could see a HBO type tv series being a smash hit

It could be the amazing soundtrack but i loved this. I like the adult cast too which is going to have me catching some ontd heat. 😑

yeah i didn't think it was that bad of a trailer. the only thing that felt clunky was trying to include a clip of each of the adult actors.

but i'll confess i'm rooting for jaquel spivey after seeing him in a strange loop so i may not go see this myself but i'm not gonna root for it to flop!
