Nov 07, 2023 11:13

The studios’ latest offer would reportedly allow them to secure rights to use digital scans of deceased actors without consent of their estate or SAG-AFTRA

SAG has countered that there must be compensation & consent for re-use of actors’ scans.

The DGA contract has language that a director is a human person which protects them from AI so the actors should get the same thing. The greed of the AMPTP to try to own the image of a person in perpetuity is just so gross.

They're like god-damned cartoon villains. How do they think "we want to own your likeness forever after paying you 500$ once" is something people will jump at.

They've been holding onto that for MONTHS. At this point each CEO in the amptp needs to be fired for dragging this out for such a stupid point.

And most extras actually get paid way less than 500 bucks. Imagine getting 100 or even $200 and then having your body, face, and essence in multiple productions and never getting a cent for it. I've even seen auditions in Atlanta that pay less than that. We are so fucked.

Wanting to digitally own someone’s likeness forever for a onetime payment is such a fucking disturbing and dystopian notion. Then also wanting to use a dead person’s likeness without any consent. Who the fuck do these people think they are??

They want a CGI likeness to get Oscar buzz like on Bojack Horseman.

The people who launched the campaign to take a deal - they’d be f-ked if we took this deal with that in there.”

Are they referring to Clooney, Affleck and the other actors who presented that proposal??

I'm glad the union is fighting for this. I feel like a lot of people are gonna be screwed by AI in the future and the more protections against it there are, the better.

yes and it was so obvious that the only reason they wanted to do that was so that those people could promote their movies during awards season

the thing is, the big stars have the power to negotiate beyond the standard contract. they can ask for more money, more control, more stipulations, or just strike the AI thing completely. working actors don't have that luxury.
