ONTD... does your workplace care about your mental health?Nope. I've been having a rough time because my boss won't accept we need higher starting wages (I'm a store manager and we start at MINIMUM wage.) He expects me to have fully trained and dedicated staff. HA ( ... )

Are you in the States? If so, please look into filing a workers compensation claim. It’s hard to give specific advice because I live in one of the few states that hasn’t completely privatized workplace injury claims, but you have rights and I don’t want to see this company rob you of your physical health as well as your mental and financial health.

Sorry if I seem really pushy about this, but I used to work in this realm and I’ve seen what companies will do to weasel their way out of supporting their existing employees.

Edited to add that I was in your same position years ago and lucked out getting an entry-level state government job, so I hope you can find something similar! I was able to work my way up because of all the skills I picked up in retail. I really hope you can find something better like that soon, because you obviously deserve it. 💛

I'm in Canada. Here the doctors office/ER always asks if it's work related and the moment you say yes it's filed with wcb. I haven't heard from them yet but I'm expecting to in the next day or two.

Thankfully my head office has opted to pay me until they hear from wcb, which is more than I expected them to do, so I'm thankful for that.

WCB will also cover my physical therapy and such, the problem is my towns one pt doesn't do wcb claims so I'd have to go 90 minutes each way to the closest city. I'm in northern Alberta so I don't really want to keep doing that drive in winter. 😫

ugh, that sounds awful. And doing that drive sounds like it would exacerbate your injury further. I hope you have a swift recovery.

This just have me the worst flashbacks to being in retail for 6 years. I am so sorry for what you’re dealing with sis. Store managers getting pissed at their part time, newly hired, already being pushed to their limits staff was my life and I do NOT miss sobbing in the bathroom because I had the flu and had to be there and my sales associates were being treated like shit and I was missing holiday events with my family because I was staying until midnight every night…

I know every industry has its pros and cons but if you have a herniated disc (i work from home now and I was still in unimaginable pain I cannot IMAGINE) I would really look into trying to transitioning to a tech work from home job and hopefully using your benefits for physical therapy to strengthen that area after you’ve recovered.

Comically easier said than done I know, and maybe you love what you do and just hate management so just ignore me but…I’ve never felt more like I was pouring from an empty cup than working retail lol.

I am so sorry for what you are dealing with. This is so shitty and the way you are being treated makes me so angry on your behalf. I hope things look up soon❤️

Thank you. Feels good to at least have some online validation since my head office acts like I'm the problem. 😊

You’re welcome!! Ughhhhh I hate head offices and corporate double speak. I used to work retail and they’d always act like they cared about our health 🙄🙄

Take care of yourself ❤️❤️❤️

They definitely don't. 😔 One of my employees lost his dad a couple weeks ago and my boss was upset that I was giving him less hours right now.

That is just sick. 😭 Where is the humanity of some people?? Upset at fewer hours because someone lost their parent. That makes me so mad.

Also always feel free to vent in the FFAs and roundups if you haven’t been already ❤️❤️

Thanks! I do try to get to the FFA's but I'm usually late to the party.

He's younger too, 19 I think. Like sorry I feel bad for this kid and asked him how many hours HE wants right now and did that. There's no bereavement pay for pay time workers so he doesn't want to be off, but he still going through all the stuff of his dad's AND they had to go clean the place where he died. He shouldn't have to worry about his job right now!!!

You’re welcome! ❤️ I know, they really slow down after a certain hour.

Oh god! Not that it’s ever easy to lose your dad but a 19-year old? That is so terrible!!! The job should be the last thing on his mind!! I’m glad he has a manager like you ❤️
