i personally hate how much wine mom culture is everywhere and I found it really challenging in-person at work. i'm in comms which is a very women heavy profession so in all my past jobs, it seemed like all everyone wanted to do or talk about outside of work was about how much wine they wanted to have etc. whereas i was actively trying to not be dependant on alcohol to de-stress or socialize but then ended up feeling like a weirdo if i didn't have a glass of chardonnay with 'the girls' after work.

i've always drank a lot but i've had phases in life where i stopped drinking much. first, from 26 to 28 and then from 32 to 33 (so 2021 - 2022). i blacked out in 2019 and i don't remember nothing about that night. and this year i started drinking again, and quite a lot, and that sht always happens when i have some stress in life (i got into a situationship and he ghosted me). i realized this october that i was drinking a lot and going out a lot too that was hurting my finances so i'm having less drinks from now on. i don't wanna fall into that path again.

I find her discussing this (and tom holland actually) really relatable for a lot of people. it can take a long time to realize you have an alcohol issue because society tells us that binge drinking is funny and ok and normal. it is not ok to get absolutely fucked multiple times a week and it's not normal to not be able to stop once you have one drink. there are a lot of alcoholics that don't consider themselves one because they're not wasted all day every day. It's nice she's open about it.

there's so much alcohol consumption at my work and in social settings (i was warned about UK drinking culture but i was not prepared) that it has fucked up my ability to just enjoy a glass or two and stop. i quit coffee cold turkey five years ago and now i think alcohol might be next...

I honestly think if I wasn’t from the UK (and now living in Ireland) I wouldn’t drink full stop. I drink very very minimally now but it’s so hard to do that in social settings here. It’s just baked in.

it really is. my ex is irish and he does not drink alcohol (i think he drank twice in the time i knew him and only got tipsy once) and it really has affected his social life! i hate it!

i'm from canada, and it's not like people don't drink (see any hockey game or someone going to get a 2x4 for the long weekend) but there were always equal amounts of people drinking alcohol and people who drank other beverages at work or social events. i'm just not going to drink at work events anymore, it's not fun and i like my health too much

always good for people to step back and take a look at their relationship to alcohol imo. during the pandemic i was noticing i was drinking multiple times a week and feeling like shit because that was my work culture at the time (so. many. zoom happy hours.) and was like...i don't like this actually!

now i really only drink when i go out or a glass of wine with dinner which is pretty rare. my husband and i have a running joke where we keep buying alcohol and then only drink like once every few months so it stockpiles lmao. i'm here for more fun little beverages that aren't booze becoming popular. we got a pack of those gut-health sodas from costco and they DISAPPEARED in five days between the two of us.
