People are blinded by their hatred of Kirchneristas, but they have to understand that he's truly unstable. Thankfully no one from my close family will vote for this mad man. My dad is exempted from voting because of his age, but will go now to vote for Massa because this is truly scary

Thank you for this post, OP. As a Brazilian who had to endure the absolute shitshow of a far-right government, I wouldn't wish that on anyone but especially wouldn't wish that on any South American country. Hoping that Argentina will be better than us and will elect someone who's not pure scum

*hugs*

That's what gets to me, Bolsonaro was CLOSE. We saw that, front row seats. And there are still people who sympathize.

The far-right is a fucking disease.

And there are still people who sympathize.

Yep, it makes us question our own sanity, it’s terrifying

yep, came in here to say basically this. his government has set us back a decade, the far-right can and will destroy every good thing it touches. hope argentina doesn't have to live through what we did.

op, good luck! thank you for such an interesting post.

this election has been truly a wake-up call for the region. I have had conversations with people that are super baffling, "libertarian" ideas have been spreading and you can't reason with people who consider everything by their monetary value. we all thought Trump was an outlier, then Bolsonaro, but these past years there have been more and more far-right groups and even parties getting into governments.

also, the VP has been denying/twisting info about Argentina's dictatorship and I can't help but think my country has had a part of that rhetoric, as small as we are, it is an actual debate here and our gov joined a far-right party with that message as a selling point, in order to win.

Exactly. We saw this ideology as a bleeding wound with Trump, which then trickled down to the rest of América, infecting everywhere it could. It's scary because it once seemed so far away, we didn't do enough to stop it, thinking it would never hit us. Kinda like the very early stages of the pandemic.

Stop how? Considering the awful job many of our 21st-century “left-wing” governments have done during years, all the stolen resources, the repression and the economic wreck, as well as their reiterated attempts to stay in power through less-than-transparent means, can we really be surprised at this extreme turn to the other side?

Stop as in not pointing at it like a circus animal and being aware of how close to home it was happening and how it was spreading instead.

Stop as in 4 years ago a party led by a neonazi got a tiny sliver off a milimeter of votes and only a handful of women said "uhm this is really scary" but no one listened.
