Thank you for this post, OP, it is very interesting to see the way community organization can have its roots in hobby gatherings. Even here on ONTD, this is a celebrity gossip site but we're always having political and social conversations that I hope help us all to see others' perspectives and understand experiences outside of our own bubbles. I've definitely found this place to be a safe haven in a sea of shitty takes, and a great source of information and action-oriented advice on various social topics.

There can be such a heartwarming sense of belonging in fandom. It's definitely got its yikes sides, no matter who / what the stans are for, but there's something very sweet and human about gathering together to gush excitedly about something everyone in the group shares a deep love for.

Fandoms are annoying when it comes to things directly in relation to their favorite idols, yes. But I think too many dismiss them instantly as also being equally annoying people in all aspects of life. This is particularly true with female fans of anything. People instantly roll their eyes and shake their head at hearing about swifties, army, etc-but then when it comes to men who are fans of sports teams, suddenly that's a much lighter topic and boys being boys, even after they do things like turn cars over and rage in the streets in anger. They'll punch each other and kill each other over sports, yet never meet the same amount of scrutiny as a female fan of a singer will get ( ... )

And Milei wants us to have the same level of gun control as the US :)))))))))))))

I'm exhausted

ETA See also the assasination attempt on Cristina Kirchner. I can't link it rn but there is a Pagina 12 article about this connection if you want to read. I'm sure it can be translated.
