I feel like mces entire career has been leading up to gerard in a cheerleader outfit. thats their lifes mission and mine and now we can both go to the great emo gig in the sky.
So true!! It’s kind of crazy how connected Gerard seems to be to the sort of narrative mythos around the band, which the band and the fans created together. Like, one thing that jumped out at me on this tour was how these costumes almost created narrative “moments”-like Joan of Arc topping off Mexico for example. Just so impressive and cool.
omgggg I never thought about that with the I'm Not Okay line but you're so right. I have always gotten trans vibes from that*, like maybe it would be "I just wanna-- live!" or "be myself" or something. I have now accepted "to be a goddamn cheerleader" as lore haha
*not saying Gerard is trans as he is explicitly unlabeled. just saying that's what I imagined as a trans person. before I realized I was trans. just the desire to be your true self when you feel like you're trapped and cannot be.
Somehow this band has been the only thing I have loved since I was a teen. Remembering how self conscious he's always been, it was truly refreshing seeing him look so happy, especially to be back on stage, that last tour.
