Floppage is imminent for The Marvels

Oct 17, 2023 18:34

It's not looking good for The Marvels, which is predicted to open to between $50-$75 million. That's less than half of Captain Marvel's opening weekend in 2019. Presales are currently 72% worse than Marvel's last flop Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The Marvels budget is reportedly $270+ million. It will hit cinemas November 10.

And we are rejoincing because?
The Marvels, unlike many of its predecessors which did deserved to flop, has a diverse cast, centered around women and poc

I'm as tired as anyone of seeing superhero movies
But I won't cheer for this "floppage", nor did I rejoice at Blue Beetle numbers because Marels and DC won't stop making movies, they'll just stop making movies centered around women and poc

yeah at first glance this post did not make me happy. Flash, for example, deserved to flop 1000000000%. I do NOT want this for a film centred around 3 female protagonists, two of whom are WOC. Did we not see what happened after Barbie? They announced a thousand more movies about TOYS. Women will never win even when we do, but when something goes wrong we’ll lose even if it wasn’t us

Yeah this is nothing worth celebrating because these fucking incells and white boys , racists, sexists, POS are just going to use this as a reason as to why women/POC shouldn’t make big budget films it’s pissing me off it had to be this fucking film which actually looks like a lot of fun

The trailer just does nothing for me and I used to be the biggest Marvel Universe fanboy but I just cannot relate to the new "generation" of Heroes. Also the plot seems lazy and recycled with the typical "Superhero against annoying evil "most powerful ever" person trying to destroy the universe yet we are going to beat them in the end" plot. Endgame was truly the beginning of the end for Marvel. I watched pretty much all of the films up to then. Then they got greedy and expanded into TV and promised that not watching the shows wouldn't affect your understanding of the following films and they lied. Now no one can be bothered keeping up with the mass of content, and both the shows and the films are apparently getting shittier so they're just going to keep flopping on top of each other, and while it's a shame for this one because of the cast, it's kind of what the execs deserve for their stupid over-saturation.

Disney drives everything into the ground. I don’t want to watch Star Wars anymore either.

Yeah, pretty much the only hit they had this year was Guardians of the Galaxy and other than being totally lost if you didn’t see Endgame because of the different timeline Gamora, at least it was a standalone story. The character of Adam Warlock was teased in Guardians 2 so it’s not like he was hinted at in another property to follow along.

Same. These movies use to be events that were highly anticipated. Now they’re just another marvel content.

It’s too much. A lot of streaming companies seem to have a more is better mentality with content. However, they need to do more quality or quantity. The only who does it even a little is HBO - focusing on a few quality shows. Hulu, Netflix, Disney, Amazon are all flooding the market with a glut of content.

This should have been a Disney plus exclusive or something idk why they thought putting this in theaters was a good idea.

But I will probably watch it anyway even though I’m not exactly excited about it
