i hope this show finds its stride again. it was so hilarious for a good while there, like a few years ago (with aidy, cesily, kate, etc), everything had just found its stride at the same time, the writing, acting, directing, producing, etc. i miss it being truly funny and like i was witnessing true talented comedians who worked great off each other. i feel like that's a big problem for the current cast; they just don't work well off each other. it's less of a team effort and it just doesn't feel right. maybe with the exception of bowen, but I feel like he himself suffers from a weak cast tbh. heidi, kenan, and chloe are good too, but a bulk of the new people are horrible imo. espeically sarah who i cannot stand.

this is interesting bc I think this cast works together pretty well when the material is written as an ensemble piece and not a “these people react to the one weirdo” vanity pieces they roll out in the second half of every episode.

there was the loss of UCB as the primary feeder into SNL and that has led the show to cast more stand ups instead of actual improv performers. that makes for some interesting sketches (Marcello Hernandez bringing in slice of life stuff) and interesting performers (Michael Longfellow’s deadpan is killer), but there is a learning curve. I think most of the new kids got over the hurdle before the end of the season though.

So they’re just gonna have one of the writers be the guest until the SAG strike is resolved?

I think the SAG statement means actors can host the show, since variety type shows are under a different contract that isn't being struck. They just can't like, promote a movie they have coming out while hosting

I suppose so but I guess it’s still acting and promo for the actors themselves but then again that’s not what they’re striking about…
