Netflix has announced release dates for the sixth and final season of The Crown. Part 1 (the first four episodes) will release on November 16, followed by Part 2 (the last six episodes) on December 14

do you think netflix is going to keep slowly stretching out seasons and ditch the binge model?

they do this to pad their subscription numbers across multiple months lol. instead of ppl reactivating/paying to binge everything in one week then dropping netflix again, they get them for two months. unless the person watches all of the last 6 episodes in less than 2 days, they pay for the second month of access to finish the series out it's a way to artifically spike their numbers

oh definitely. i wonder if they'll ever switch to a weekly release for any of their shows but i guess it achieves just about the same end re: subscriptions, depending on the number of episodes (releasing 2 parts across 2 months vs. releasing 8 episodes over 8 weeks, i mean).

the other piece of the puzzle is that netflix breaks their seasons into multiple parts that they string out like this to lock staff/cast into lower salaries for longer

It's going to be really interesting to see how they handle the aftermath of Diana's death, given that Morgan already wrote The Queen on this subject. He'll presumably have to find some other perspectives on it.

It's somewhat comparable to when Tom Hanks et al. made the From the Earth to the Moon miniseries a few years after making Apollo 13, and when they got to the Apollo 13 mission in the former they told it from the POV of various reporters trying to cover the story.

This reminding me that I never finished Season 5... switching up the actors kind of ruined it for me. The current batch feels charmless (which, accurate to real life, terrible for drama.)
