My name starts with an 'i' and everyone outside the 2-3 nearest countries thinks it's an 'L'. I write it in lower case, correct people and it doesn't help much.

You know how some Western immigrants have an English name and then a name that corresponds to their cultural heritage? I feel like I've got an "English name" because outside of my family (and people of my ethnicity), no one else pronounces my name the way it's supposed to sound. So I've adopted this incorrect pronunciation as my legal name in the Anglosphere, and I even got a nickname out of the mispronunciation, too, that's become like another identity.

And then, there's my real name, which only my mother ever calls me.

I have my given Vietnamese name, an American name I adopted in middle school, and a nickname that my family uses. I am rarely ever called by the former and it’s sad to think about. I like it enough, I suppose, but my dad gave me that name and I’ve always wondered what my mom would have named me if he wasn’t such a prick. So maybe I’m not that sad about it lol

I correct people in work emails because my name is in my goddamn signature, the lack of effort pisses me off.
