People constantly misspell my name and I used to be chill about it but now I started correcting them and wow do people get upset. And then they get it right once and still continue to misspell it.

I would have said "Iss-a" too - but I know now in future that it's "Ee-sa"!

Not sure what she means about being 'part of the community', unless she means 'the Comic-con Community" ... but how is that relevant?

as a white person whose english isn't even her first or second language, i'm really confused how you can mispronounce Issa Rae...

I imagine most would automatically say Iss-a.

ya years ago when I first got into Insecure i'm pretty sure i was thinking it was like Iss-a or Eye-suh. Kinda like Isis (which i don't mean as a derogatory reference, it's a shame the name Isis has been ruined by a terrorist group, because Isis was an Egyptian goddess)

I love the name Isis. It was my #1 baby name for a while.

My boss at a job rotation, who had met me several years earlier and could pronounce my name then, changed a vowel in my name told everyone that was what I was called and when a friend protested said that her version of my name was what I "liked" being called.

She also added an "on" onto the end of my surname and once sent an email looking for sickness cover to two of my friends and "wrongname wrongson". That I didn't mind at all but I felt sorry for the random that got her email.

I only got her to use my correct name by threatening HR/negative feedback.
