so well-deserved! My elderly parents worked very customer facing jobs got their shots in early spring 2021 and I remember actually shedding a tear in relief.

I'm getting my booster and flu shot this Saturday and hoping it won't knock me out too bad.

This was widely considered inevitable as soon as the mRNA vaccines took off during the pandemic. It was only somewhat surprising that they waited this long after the vaccine approval.

Per a Reuters piece, they apparently first met while waiting in line to use one of UPenn's time-rationed photocopiers, which gave them enough time for him to become interested in what she was talking about researching.

"And then Dr. Langer left the university, and the department chairman said he was leaving as well. Dr. Kariko again was without a lab and without funds for research.

A meeting at a photocopying machine changed that. Dr. Weissman happened by, and she struck up a conversation. “I said, ‘I am an RNA scientist - I can make anything with mRNA,’” Dr. Kariko recalled.

Dr. Weissman told her he wanted to make a vaccine against H.I.V. “I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, I can do it,’” Dr. Kariko said."

Well deserved!
I'm not getting my new covid shot until November (earliest appointment available at Kaiser). I still haven't gotten covid yet *knocks on wood* and work in the community. I have no doubt getting my shots is what has made that possible. bless.
