September 18, 2023 Following in the heels of artists such as:
The Killers,
Bob Dylan,
Justin Timberlake,
Iggy Azalea,
Shakira,
John Legend,
Bruce Springsteen, and
Justin Bieber, to name a few, now Katy Perry is the latest artist to sell her music catalog for a cool $225 million.
Litmus Music, a catalog rights company, said on Monday that it had acquired the rights to Katy Perry’s five studio albums released for Capitol Records.
Perry has sold her music rights to the private-equity Carlyle-backed company, which was co-founded by former Capitol Records president Dan McCarroll. The deal includes Perry’s stakes in master recordings and publishing to: 2008's One of the Boys, 2010's Teenage Dream, 2013's PRISM, 2017's Witness, and 2020's Smile.
The deal does not seem to include her Christian debut album,
Katy Hudson (2001).
Litmus Music launched in 2022 and had its first major acquisition in December, purchasing
Keith Urban’s rights to his master recordings.
