- Novelist Colson Whitehead sarcastically praised the National Book Awards decision to use Barrymore as a host (this was announced back in July)
- Yesterday Barrymore announced her intention to return to bring her talk show back without any writers as they are still on strike and AMPTP has yet to offer them a fair deal
- The writers guild has been on strike since May 2nd
- Several book writers also expressed disappointment including Alexander Chee, Amber Sparks, and Alex Segura
