After Missy, I kept thinking Busta Rhymes is another hip hop artist who should get it cause him and Missy had theeee most out-there music videos in the rap genre.

i think one year they recognized Hype Williams (most of missy and bustas videography up til a point where Hype slowed down on music videos in general. Missy pretty much went to David Meyers for videos).

Hype is still working but he's def not as prominent as he once was.

I appreciate that Shakira has a unique voice that stands out amongst her industry peers and I'm sure this award is meaningful to her

That said, I hate her voice and I won't be watching

Deserved but the VMAs don't have the importance they had in the 80s - early 2000s.

I remember in the early 00s there was always a scandal happening at the show, or some drama between celebs that stayed in the news for weeks. Like, everyone I know watched it live for that reason. It fell off so hard.
