The one thing I’ve noticed is the well-adjusted child actors were the ones who had good parents.

Daniel Radcliffe always says his parents told them if wanted to quit he could at any time. They told him he doesn’t have to do this.

Elijah Wood, Kirsten Dunst, Zendaya etc…etc will say that their parents looked out for them.

Even sometimes actors will help. Robert Iler who played AJ in The Sopranos said that somewhere during in season 1, Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts) told him if anybody tries any “inappropriate behavior” or mistreatment with him to tell him and he’ll set him straight.

And even with good parents, it's very difficult for a child to navigate stardom. I mean, Dan Radcliffe had a problem with alcoholism during his late teens and without a doubt being so famous at such a young age put a lot of pressure on him

I imagine the worst cases are when the child is the breadwinner of the family.

Without giving too many personal details, I'm currently in a theater org where I am basically on the same level as a lot of younger (anywhere from 12-24) people and it is crazy how it is like that even on a community theater level. I try really hard to watch out for them because I'm so much older and I've had to get on to theater production staff for being wayyyyy over the top with their criticisms and making 19-year-olds cry for no reason

ETA: Not speaking on legitimate criticism on performance and stuff, but just like out of line comments about their bodies or the way they move.

Time to subscribe. Child actors have bare minimum protections

Why is she using Piaget to describe child development in 2023? it's like someone took one Intro to child development class, did well, and made a video essay. Most of those models are outdated.

Is there a particular model you prefer? Because I took multiple child development classes in undergrad (2006-2010) as well as took child development in my masters program (2016) and Piaget’s theory is still taught and highly regarded. We even have cognitive assessments for children based on Piagetian theory. None of them are perfect, but I’d hardly say any of them should be disregarded except for Freud’s.

He has some useful ideas but overall, stage theory is out of favor in developmental research.

Piaget is still taught in grad school today, alongside Erikson.
