Jessica Chastain reveals that as a kid she would sit in the school cafeteria eating orange and banana peels:

Also, unrelated but does anyone else think this new trend of isolating random podcast quotes celebs give and turning them into headline tweets is SUPER annoying? This happened with that Kristin Bell story a while back too. I feel like on most talk shows and podcasts it's understood that celebs will try to tell quirky or funny stories just to keep the flow of conversation going, most of this stuff is probably not designed to stand on its own as a news story and isn't something the person was shouting from the rooftops, just something they said in passing.

a podcast i really enjoy (who? weekly) has a whole theory on why this keeps happening. basically downmarket celebrities have their own pods now, so they can get more famous guests pretty easily. It's so easy for anyone remotely notable to get a deal with a podcast company and it's easy money for them. the podcast format is so much less formal than like, press junkets and interviews so the celebs are more comfortable sharing weird conversational and personal stuff that journalists wouldn't ask them about because it's boring and weird. these stories then get picked up as clickbait/internet chum and it's basically a snake eating its own tail of content.

Oh totally. I just think in the specific context of ONTD I wish there was more emphasis placed on the fact that this was from a podcast, otherwise it totally sounds like Chastain was running to the presses with this goofy childhood story LOL

As far as weird shit kids do for attention this isn’t that bad.

She has talked about this before, last year and "problem children" normally come from problem households like hers.

“I was an obnoxious kid because I wasn’t getting appropriate attention. I would do things like eat banana peels in the lunch rooms so kids would notice me.” There was also a lack of parental engagement.

Her home life was further complicated by what she has referred to as the drug addiction of a younger sister

I must be tripping balls or something bc even without that context I thought her quote was oddly endearing. I know she's very OTT but I think it's nice when celebs admit to things that aren't flattering - actual unflattering things, not shit like ~I'm such a perfectionist~ or whatever. Her quote seems less about her being a weirdo and more about her being desperate for attention, which isn't something most people would admit. On the list of annoying things Jessica has said, this doesn't even make top 5 to me lol

the world would be a better place if more people were open about the weird shit they did as a kid which is embarrassing to look back on but tbh shouldn’t even be embarrassing because you were a kid and all kids are weird as hell! Zooey Deschanel just checked her rearview mirror... Jessica Chastain is in her blindspot... grinning.

I really don’t think I sought much attention as a child. In school I was painfully shy until fifth grade and then very slowly started to come out of my cocoon. Most of my early memories are literally me hiding behind my mom’s legs when we were around lots of people.
