There was so much good music from that era! You had the British Invasion (with Duran Duran, Spandeau Ballet, Wham, Eurythimics, Culture Club, Paul Young, etc), Hair Metal Bands, great R&B, Madonna and Michael, Prince's Purple Reign, the birth of Hip Hop, The Industrial Revolution, House Music, etc. Lots of genre crossing, and people doing the unexpected with great results. Videos helped too because a lot of those acts had GREAT visuals.
Sad to say, that can never be replicated today because of gatekeeping, and I miss that type of innovation.
Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears would be my favorite 80s song followed by a bunch of Italo disco like Dolce Vita by Ryan Paris or Faces by Clio.
I saw Tears for Fears a couple years back at Jones Beach. They're still incredibly good live!
