I wish it was just Q crazies :/ A LOT of people I thought were sane have started saying things like this and they arent even Trump supporters. Celebrities like Ice Cube really arent helping. They are making this line of thinking very mainstream.
You’re right It’s absolutely insane (pun not intended) how mainstream conspiracy theories are now, we are devolving as a society (and let’s be real it wasn’t that evolved to begin with) facts aren’t a thing anymore
Yeah its really scary to see so many awful sentiments being entertained in not just the media but day to day life. The amount of people I've seen spouting Covid conspiracies, people who initially followed protocol, got the vax, were ok with things being shutdown and were ok with masks and social distancing etc who now say the same weird crap Trumpers were saying in 2020 is so disheartening. I've worked in customer service and retail for quite some time and Ive seen coworkers and customers who were regulars do complete 180s on these topics and Im just like...frustrated.
I came here to say the same thing! My friend and I went in blind because it popped up on our Netflix feed and ended up loving it. Really clever, great build up of tension in a lot of scenes, and some really laugh out loud moments.
I totally understand that celebrities aren't obligated to provide the public with health updates, but I can't help but think there is a larger phenomenon going on in this phase of the pandemic where we are even further removed from having open discussions about illness and injury. Like there is a strong normative imperative for people to "appear" healthy. IDK, this is a half-baked thought
no you're 100% right and this is talked about a lot in disability/chronic illness communities. people hate to be reminded of their own mortality. they only want to think about illness in terms of something you can completely recover from in a short period of time. a lot of people with long covid are facing the 1-2 punch of losing the ability to live a normal life and then losing their entire support system, too.
Yes, because they remind their friends and communities, just by existing, that "healthiness" is an illusion and that COVID is still a serious threat. It's terrible.
