Ifeel so bad for their employees.
I bet they had this ready for the end of federal recognition for the pandemic to pull this shit.

It's been really nice recently connecting with more ppl who are still masking and invested in preventing the spread of covid.

If you still mask, do ppl around you give you shit about it?

I still wear a mask and haven’t heard anything. When I was at the doctors office the other day they said I didn’t have to but that just felt like them letting me know. When I was in hospital a couple weeks ago I asked them all to wear them.

I get patients/their spouses who sometimes give me a hard time. Like they'll remind me that the pandemic is "over", ask me why I wear one and my coworkers don't, tell me it's not fair that they can't see my face, etc. I just mostly ignore it and tell them it's my preference. They can fuck off.

the pandemic is "over" because it's shifted to endemic, meaning the virus is everywhere and not going away. Too many people took it to mean it's not a danger anymore. Not at all helped by government messaging around it, restricting PCRs so we have to rely on rapid tests that don't pick up the new strains, forcing people to work while sick and businesses making people come back to the office so they're not paying exorbitant rent on an empty building

I don’t think it’s even met the definition of endemic yet though due to unpredictable fluctuations still happening?

that's correct, it actually hasn't despite best efforts to minimise the data (any data) we have on that, which makes this even stupider. Sad to see the WHO caving to pressure from governments on that front.

eta: I guess my point more was, it being endemic versus pandemic changes absolutely nothing about the virus itself. Polio and measles (the only virus more contagious than omicron though I'm sure some of the variants have it beat - stopping using new names after that helped muddy the waters on 'oh this is its final form') used to be endemic. We didn't go after eradicating them because of a high CFR, it was the other outcomes that mattered. Something else that's been used to muddy the waters with covid. Even if it was "only" as deadly as the flu, who tf is ok with getting the flu multiple times a year when it can also cause permanent damage leading to early death as well as a 10% (compounding with every infection!) chance of becoming disabled every time you get it

Happened to me two days ago. Patient said something like, "are you still protecting yourself from COVID, is that why you wear the mask? It just seems like a g** that I can't see your face".

I was like "you're not missing much" and left lmao. Some patients that I have a good rapport with will ask politely if they can see what I look like, and I don't mind that. It's just the people who don't understand that COVID is very much still a thing and act like I'm overreacting by still wearing one.

god people are the worst. I once was making an appointment for a woman while navigating a complex roster and she had the gall to say "why aren't you smiling?" and I was so annoyed I just replied with "do you want the correct appointment or not?"

I masked up until this summer. I work at a school so I notice right away when there's an increase of cases. I might mask up again in the fall if necessary.

The hard part is ppl who are sick and not testing.

Do you have access to any info about the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) of your classrooms?
