The Take goes into what we lost in The Idol, which originally was supposed to be a dark character study of a grown up child star who gets wrapped in a cult from Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience, She Dies Tomorrow). Seimetz was allegedly fired with the show 90% done because The Weekday felt the show was too female-centered and wanted more

I've only watch D'Angelo Wallace's and KennieJD's recaps of this show and I mourn what Amy's vision could have been and was. Also, there's no payoff largely because we don't get a glimpse of former Joss in any real way. Contrasting the sweet, bright child star with a woman searching for who she is outside of that and falling accidentally into a cult via a leader that saw her being lost & took advantage COULD be a good show.

ALSO, don't think I don't notice all the cries of false sexual assault allegations, lack of needing intimacy coordinator and the twist of a woman lying to the world about abuse in a show starring Lily Rose DEPP either.

I'm not watching this whole thing but the bts photos of LRD's character's Disney persona looked cool. I really wish we got more of that because the Disney child to sexualized pop star pipeline is real.

I feel bad because what little I saw LRD seemed pretty good too. She’s obviously not hurting over this but it was a missed opportunity
