i don't know that "forget" is correct. I feel like people just don't care? But nobody's forgotten and I don't feel like the public has a positive view of Tom as a PERSON. I feel like everyone thinks he's weird and robotic and has no interest in his personal life, and knows the scientology stuff is true and bad. People only "respect" his dedication to movies and yeah, weirdly that's enough to know everything negative that he's associated with and believe that it's true and kind of shrug it off.

I think you're right. My sense/memory is that when things started going south for him (the conspiratorial rants), he tried repeating the same tricks that worked for him in the past (high profile marriage and child with very tightly controlled and planned photo ops and limited releases of info), and that didn't work (plus, the marriage ended publicly in a way that did not look good for him). So he started basically not existing beyond the films he released and the promos for them. He used to give more interviews and leave more of an impression that he was open with his fans and that they knew about his life, and who "the real Tom" was, but these days I feel like there's none of that, and it's key to how he has sustained an audience despite the widespread agreement of his personal character. Obviously some amount of his power must be used to stop more articles like this from being front and center because what other big celeb could have a general sense even among casual fans that he's weird, robotic, creepy etc, have an ex-wife who is ( ... )

That's definitely how I feel about him. I have no interest in him as a human (except him trying to court Shakira was fucking hilarious) but I LOVE the Mission Impossible movies in a way that's almost embarrassing. The only thing I'd love more is a Fast/MI crossover event.

The way she planned this was amazing. Terrible that she had to in the first place, but really hats fucking off to her.

Interesting! Well I think most of the general public is willing to ignore absolutely horrible things about people if it means that they get to enjoy their frivolous entertainment. It is just too inconvenient for them to deal with cutting out certain things from their life because they don't actually care about others.
