Haven't seen anything over the past week because of hanging with family, but I do wanna see No Hard Feelings! Maybe tonight, but idk, I am tired.

Can't say I am especially interested in any of the other releases this weekend, but I did pick up tickets for Barbie in Dolby on the Thursday of release - can't wait!!

I rewatched Chevalier and got more annoyed by how critically inaccurate it was to the detriment of everyone involved. It was like Stefani Robinson took every figure and event in question and just said, "Okay, but what if we do the opposite and then call it the ~'spiritual truth'~"?

I wrote a super long-winded review but I kind of just wanted to finish it so there's stuff left out... like the fact that the real Marie-Josephine was an actress who ran a theater with her husband, who wrote plays, and hired Joseph Bologne to conduct there. But the film portrays her as this poor waif meow meow whose brutish art-hating husband won't let her near a theater. (Granted the guy was said to be an asshole! But not an art-hating asshole.)

Spoilers for Chevalier?? Since it's so fictionalized and not accurate I guess a spoiler tag is in order.

[Spoiler (click to open)]But the issue here is that Marie-Josephine actually was his employer, which creates a very different power dynamic on top of her being a white woman and him being in a precarious situation as a black man ... )

Urgh that is no annoying! I haven’t watched it yet, but the actual story is interesting enough without all these changes. I don’t mind when they tweak some things here and there for dramatic purposes, but I hate blatant misinformation in a historical biopic.

It's so blatantly inaccurate that I'm honestly boggled. I can't think of much in the film that is even vaguely accurate, other than them showing him being good at fencing and having Marie Antoinette rattle off some of his earlier accomplishments in one line of dialogue that isn't very understandable if you don't know what she's talking about. Even the racist petition that was circulated in reality was altered for the film to make it more "dumbed down" for audiences.

i watched the aftermath (2019) which was not very good, but i didn't expect it to be good so that was fine. i was really only there for keira knightley and alexander skarsgard tbh.

i'm going to scotland in a couple of weeks and ended up rewatching mary queen of scots just because. wow, is that script worse than i remembered. the cast tries their best but the writing is a shit show. it kind of amazes me that beau willimon wrote the excellent narkina 5 arc on andor when he also wrote this, but also men have spent literal centuries falling into the trap of angelic virgin elizabeth/evil harlot mary OR sad unfulfilled childless elizabeth/blessed wife & mother mary. any nuance at all would be great!

Agreed that The Aftermath was just okay, but the soundtrack was great! Especially the music during their first kiss scene. Whew.

I just saw The Blackening this week which was really funny. Straightforward setting but fun dialogue. I was sort of worried since there was a group of teenagers that were trying to be funny, but then this one guy started laughing SO LOUD for jokes that it honestly drowned out what they were saying which I found hilarious.

For the complete opposite, I'm planning on seeing Asteroid City next week on discount day lol.

I'm excited for more people to see Past Lives!

For new to me watches, I saw both T2 Trainspotting and Yesterday. Did not care for the latter at all. A waste of a premise, and I didn't like the romance that much either. T2 was better than I was expecting though there was still things I didn't care for.

It was such a bummer how bad Yesterday turned out. I loved the premise, but they totally squandered it, and the romance was not great.

Yes! Lily James' character was driving me crazy, and it seemed more interesting when I thought it was going for a more "the Beatles popped off thanks to a bunch of other factors that you couldn't just replicate from scratch". And it doesn't even interact with its premise in an interesting enough way. Really disappointing from Boyle.

And they passed up a perfect Oasis/Wonderwall joke at the very end lol

Watched The Magician's Elephant, often wondering if they just added HD real images to every shot involving the elephant, started The Mustang because it'll leave Netflix in two weeks and horsies.
