And people wonder why women often do not denounce violence against them, how often we get a satisfying and fair resolution?
It took tens of women to get Cosby, R Kelly and Weinstein in jail ( and isn’t Cosby out on a technicality?), and even that after years of denounces and processes, it’s no wonder that victims often chose to not be put through this…

100% this! People act like everyone always believe survivors when in reality they’re almost never believed

this is his defamation suit against her. he was suing her over statements she made about him assaulting her, as well as text claiming that he had also sexually assaulted katy perry (which katy has denied. this doesn't mean kesha was defaming him, just that her statement turned out not to be true)

my read is that the court was so favorable to him that he thought he could bleed her dry on legal fees, because this had been pushed back multiple times over the years. then once he was considered a public figure, it's more up in the air and more worth his while to settle.

i feel really bad for her.

not a lawyer but for a private figure it can be defamation if you make a statement recklessly, so with the katy thing it could be defamation because she didn't go to katy to check if its true, even though im sure she genuinely believed it was true. with a public figure you have to show someone made the statement with malice.. so either knowing it was wrong and deciding to say it anyway, or have a strong suspicion it was wrong but saying it anyway.

the rationale is that public figures have a bigger platform to correct the record and manage their reputations, but normal people don't have the same ability to get the truth out.
