Sorry, I misread your comment, but since he's Korean they could always ask for Korean citizenship and have dual citizenship. In that case, he'd have to do military service IF he lives in South Korea. If he resides in Italy, then he wouldn't.

if he wants to have dual citizenship, he will have to. things might change by the time the baby grows up but this is how things are now. men with dual citizenship must either serve in the military or give up their korean citizenship. if they give up their korean citizenship they can't live in korea until they're like 40-50. as in, they can't just get a work visa for korea as an american or something. or even a marriage visa i think.

Aside from the fact that he’s questionable, these korean celebrity baby announcements always make me want to barf because it’s always the same fairytale description full of words like previous special or lovely.

They make it sound like they were in the supermarket and unexpectedly a baby fell out of her and it was just such a surprise. It’s even worse if they apologize to their fans :/

Would be nice to hear about planned babies instead of oops babies and shotgun weddings.

I’ve never seen anything about her family being upset she’s white, but the fact that she’s a foreigner and probably won’t lean into whatever crazy they have planned is probably good for both her and him and the baby. A lot of netizens mentioned his family is probably pissed they can’t get their claws into her the way they want to because in her culture, the role of the daughter in law is different.

I don't know if this is a typo, but i meant Joong Ki's family is upset Katy is white. I agree with everything else you said though. His family can't bully her with traditional filial duties because she's a westerner. It would've been nice if Hye Kyo was afforded that same option.

And idk if Hye Kyonwould have ever escaped it. Idk much about his family, but I’m not surprised they’d come with “expectations”. But like also, him going against his family if they’re that traditional… good luck regardless to the both of them?

But I remember their divorce happened right as I was getting into kdramas and I’d only barely heard of that show they had together. But the stuff I saw also made it seem like perhaps there were things they should have discussed before actually marrying. Like family planning and stuff. Seems like she wasn’t very family oriented and he was and idk. Seems like the foundation for a rocky time. But like also, I wasn’t too deep into that world then either so I missed 90% of what happened.

But it seems like he’s ready to chose his kid and his wife over his career (he said) and it’s causing an uproar because he mentioned struggling to come back after getting married (because netizens). But a lot don’t seem to care for him? Idk.
