I'm not a musical theater person, but I saw the Sweeney todd production where the actors were also the orchestra, and it was amazing

Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovett, playing the tuba -- it was amazing

it's a really fun musical

I laughed at the tally at the end. I’m not a big theatre person, but is it true she couldn’t be nominated since she didn’t originate the role? Like I’d love to laugh about her lack of nom, but if it’s based on a technicality then it’s just not as fun (for me).

Shows and actors are only eligible for Tony nominations the year that the show opens. And only the original cast is eligible to be nominated. That’s why you don’t see long running shows like Phantom or Wicked having the more recent actors receiving Tony nominations.
