Ugh. Without You always has me sobbing. It makes me miss my brother so much and hate that life is continuing on without him. It’s on my “only listen to if you need to let out tears” list but it’s my favorite. “One Song Glory” comes next. I can’t believe the guy I had a crush on in SLC Punk is Roger 🤪

I'm so sorry about your brother.

I always found it ironic that One Song Glory >>>>>>>>>> Your Eyes

I was surprised that of all the guest stars/duets, no one did Without You!

Thank you, dear one 💜 I’m surprised no one did it, either!! And I totally agree with you about the irony there; I was expecting to be as emotionally swept away and I was just sort of like, …hm. Lmao not that I hate the song but it was not what I expected.

I'll Cover You (Reprise). Sobbing, without fail, every time.

Finale B is also high on the list.

I really do have such good memories from the time I discovered Rent. Weirdly enough it's associated with Final Fantasy VII because I also watched Advent Children in the same period 🤣

Finale B is so good. I know to a musical purist, it might seem like a cheat to throw together a bunch of previous songs but they were combined together perfectly.

Like I know nothing about music theory or arrangement but I find that Finale B made good use of an ensemble cast and it flows together like an actual song

I love that no matter how high or low they change the key to accommodate the guests, Anthony just rolls with it.

Out Tonight is my go-to karaoke song and I've always gotten compliments on it haha so I'll go with that one. Ugh I'm sorry I actually really do love most of the songs and characters from Rent.

It's wild to me that Rent was ~allowed to perform La Vie Bohème on tv at the Tony Awards in 1996 but today we are dealing with drag being banned in multiple states, books with LGBTQIA+ characters being banned, drag story hour being banned, etc. It's like we're going backwards.

aww, I hadn't seen that before. thank you for sharing.

and you're totally right - we're going backwards fast and it's fucking terrifying. we need shows like RENT now more than ever.

I need to find a way to post the letter Larson wrote to Sondheim after a workshop in 1994. He's says something like "I see the homeless, HIV+, drug users, homosexuals, and liberals being vilified by the right and lumped into 'them'- who have replaced Communists for the Right's fear mongering" and it's like.... 30 years later and that's still about right?
