It’s been clear since for a while that TV’s evolution from linear to digital was not going smoothly. Since February, @LaneBrown and I have been digging into the story of how it all went awry, why those who make TV are so angry, and what comes next. https://t.co/VCguQwO6n6

"Because now they’re competing with younger people and women and people of color that they never had to compete with before. And it hurts."

Awwww old white men and their little baby feelings are hurt.

“We’ve invited all these fancy artists into the medium, and they look at it like art, not a job.”

And blame the creatives/artists while you're at it. Geez louise!

Reddit did a nice summary. Lol

In other words, the TV business model the Hollywood establishment built based on cheap, bad programming, subsidized by cable TV subscribers paying $200/month for “57 channels and nothin’ on” for 40 years is crashing down, and a lot of overpaid elites in the business are going to have to start working for a living.

These execs are love the old cable model because it was "printing money," and bemoan the future of streaming where profits are not as easy:

"Let’s take one of the truly successful money-printing inventions in the history of the modern world - which was the carriage system with cable television - and let’s just end it and reinvent ourselves as tech companies"

lmaoo that’s what I thought but I didn’t believe it!!

maybe I’m wrong but I feel like lots of people were moving away from cable anyway?
like before steamers, I’d just torrent everything on my laptop. one of my friends watches shows on his phone lmao.

but lol at these execs mad some people don’t want to make 47 police procedurals in a single season.

Aside from the morons moaning about the plight of the white man, I do think this piece had some interesting parts of it - writers and crew are being stiffed by streamers naturally but a decade in, it’s not clear how the streamers themselves are ever going to actually make money.

Yeah the bit about writers having to side hustle as Uber drivers was jarring, but I knew reading it most of the attention would go to the "oh no the poor white mens!" line. Not that people shouldn't be clowning on it, but the article also makes some valid points about how streamers are fucking the talent at least as much as cable did.

Eggzactly- everyone is getting hung up on some of the silly takes but overall I agree that the streaming model is not sustainable and not conducive to good art quite frankly!
