According to @DailyMail, Katy Perry wants to quit ‘American Idol’ because she has been repeatedly “thrown under the bus by producers” who she feels have edited the show to make her appear to be the “nasty judge.”

yeah that last paragraph is a key point - she knows her pop career is effectively over, or at least if it continues it's always going to be a very VERY pale facsimile of what it used to be, so this is more or less her last grasp at relevancy (even though it in itself is perhaps more of a neon sign of her fading relevancy than lackluster album sales ever could be). I wouldn't say it's an unenviable position to be in because she's getting paid in absolute buckets of money for it but still, I'm sure it's not how she imagined going out. she doesn't even have the devoted core fanbase some of her peers do that would otherwise keep her at least touring forever.

yeah it's weird how katy was one of the biggest pop stars in the world but it seemed like she mostly had casual fans, she didn't seem to have the intense stans most pop stars get

The need to start paying the contestants. This shit is ridiculous. The judges and producers get millions meanwhile the contestants are broke.

talk about biting the hand that feeds. you got a cushy gig with giant pay, who cares what "edit" you're getting. $150 million >>>> whatever BS legacy you think you have.

I don’t really buy this because of the producer edit part. Like the whole show has been so disneyfied that no one really gets portrayed as mean. The judges barely give any real criticism. All three of the judges basically tell every person who makes it past auditions that they’re going to be a huge star and just reiterate how great they are instead of actually judging.

If anything, I think she might not do it because she’s talked about wanting to go on another world tour and she hasn’t done that since 2018 and her kid’s a little older now but I don’t think there’s any way she would give up $30 million a year because of a couple tabloid stories about telling a contestant to ease up on the amount of glitter on her costume.

idk how they can sit there with straight faces and tell contestants they're going to be huge stars when they well bloody know the show hasn't been able to produce a star in almost two decades. talk about selling your soul to the devil.
