Holy fuck holy fuck holy fuck. I had no idea this was happening???? I mean CritRole dropped him and he went on stream to say it wasn’t his choice, and I was SO curious as to what happened to their professional relationship but they seemed to all still be good and hanging out based on socials, I had NO IDEA Ashley was going through this? How did I not know she called the cops on him in MARCH??? I thought they were happily engaged this whole time, omg I adore Ashley and I hope she’s ok :( and I hope the others are giving her the support she needs right now.
also Critters have proven absolutely psychotic in the past, I hope they leave her the fuck alone, I’m nosy but this is none of our business and she doesn’t need to be pestered by people’s judgement or speculation
I feel like CR didn't know the extent of how bad things were for Ashley but felt the need to cut ties with him as he was getting more volatile. It kind of seems like he really started spiraling in earnest after that.
I remember her engagement post on ig so I was shocked to learn this.
Honestly, it's disturbing how well people can hide things on social media. One of my good friends is dealing with her bf being an addict and cries to me all the time about how bad things are, but if you just looked at her ig you would have no idea. She's always posting lovey dovey things about him.
As someone who used to watch Talks Machina after Critical Role, reading this story was bizarre. I used to really root for Brian since he's talked about his struggles with addiction in the past, but I remember he got fired for basically getting into Twitter fights with fans (and I believe there was some BTS drama too but idk) and it started coming out what an asshole he was.
I used to watch Critical Role and tbh he has always had an off vibe. He seemed like a rough combo of anger/impulse issues (especially apparent around the time he was let go from CR) and always needing to be the smartest, most correct person in the room. And then the Amber Heard comments kind of sealed the deal on what a misogynistic asshole he is. I did always kind of wonder at the pairing of him and Ashley bc she seems so kind but like, it's not like I know either of them so never thought about it much beyond that.
I hope she and her family are safe and she will eventually get the healing she needs. I also hope she has those sweet dogs with her.
yeah, on his twitch stream when the trial was going on. i was sort of morbidly fascinated with whatever was happening with him and CR fandom at the time (i think this was around the time he was fired/left/whatever) and i remember the brouhaha about that incident although not the specifics. he was basically mocking her testimony, pretty much joining in the on the internet dogpiling. he was, of course, self-righteously belligerent when called out by a few upset critters (who can, lbr, be a little insane but in this instance were completely right.)
given the general public tenor and sharks circling blood in the water feel of that trial re: amber, that incident didn't get as much attention as it probably should have. obviously, unsurprisingly, it was a massive red flag.
I’m so, so glad Ashley got away from him, I can only hope she stays away and remains safe.
On a semi-related note, I do wish others of the CR cast had said something or even liked posts during the trial. Not because they’re obligated, but I love that group so much, and it was such a scary time when it seemed like everybody lost all critical thinking and just let their misogyny run wild, I trusted no one and was really curious if they were also secretly trash. As much as I adore them, CR has become so huge and now I’m hyper aware that they’re very much a brand they consciously present.
But as you said Critters can be batshit crazy and I definitely understood why they chose not to wade into the craziness. I just remember thinking it was so nice that some of the College Humor/D20 cast were liking pro-Amber/anti-Depp posts
this is awful, and i truly wish the best for her and her healing, and may brian rot like the pos he truly is. i hope she has support from friends and family!
ot-ish: i swear my mind is a dark and vengeful place sometimes. like there's this girl i follow on tiktok for this thing called second date update and today she was listening to some radio show by some douchebag named tom leykis who sadly has his own radio show, and i guess saying women need to have accountability for being in abusive relationships, etc., and it pissed me off. the comments were a cesspool of misogyny on both sides of the aisle agreeing, and like i couldn't help but be like "cool then men who are in the same situation with women should be held accountable too! lol." and other shit. cause just people like that genuinely piss me off.
