Even though a lot of the Bryn Mawr trip felt like filler, it was nice to see Midge just hang out with her old friends for a little while. Usually her scenes are very frantic or talking over Susie/Joel/her parents so I liked seeing her a bit more relaxed in a low stakes afternoon of talking shit about the cucumber sandwiches and retrieving their messages to themselves. I don't know if the penultimate episode of the series was the best time for it though. I wish we'd had something like this earlier in the season. It also reminded me that we haven't seen her blonde BFF for ages.
I feel like there is more to the story. she says "you owe me" which implies she did some big ass favor for him and being her cover isn't enough to make them even.
I do think that it sort of glosses over the fact that he only sees Esther now because she's exhibiting intelligence in a form he can recognize/is his own.
And conversely they're basically writing Ethan off at age six because he doesn't do well in school. That was super fucked up.
While I’m glad that Abe now believes that Midge’s daughter is capable of being a genius (and he has already started treating her differently than he treated Miriam), it’s been disappointing to see how much stock he put into an aptitude test given to a six year old. Just because Ethan didn’t test as a genius, HE IS SIX. Kids are full of potential and there’s no telling what they will end up liking/doing/excelling at based on one test.
