Ah yes, that mandatory stop on the album promo tour: the public radio station. Whether you’re a big act or an indie up-and-comer, this is a time-honored tradition for all musicians. Before the algorithms and Discover Weekly playlists, public radio was your best chance to find some off-Billboard (and sometimes off-off-Billboard) new music or hear ( Read more... )

Aussies will know Triple Js Like a Version segment has produced some epic live performances and covers in the studio. They have a great YT channel with a mix of big names and smaller acts for anyone interested.

(Also Live From the Basement is a good but smaller YT channel/series with big acts on it. The live set with Nilüfer Yanya is superb.)

Idk if it’s off topic to include covers OP, but some of my faves from Like a Version include Odette covering Gang of Youths’ Magnolia and #1 Dads covering FKA Twigs’ Two Weeks.

Yes! I’m not Aussie but I learned about Like A Version from Haim’s cover of Shania Twain which is so good:

I can't find a video of it, but I think one of my favourite live radio performances was when PUP was on Q back in 2016 when The Dream is Over came out. I just remember that I hadn't really listened to them before, but their interview was really chill, and then during their performance they didn't self-censor their lyrics. Which I mean, 'Swearing on the CBC' isn't exactly in the top 5 most punk things ever done, but it still tickled me and I've been a fan ever since!

Anyway, shoutout to radio! I know that people joke about radio being dead but it's very much still alive! I live in Toronto and I'd argue that Indie88 (local independent radio station) has done more/is more involved with our city than the majority of our local politicians. Support your local, support independent media, etc etc.

I love Young Fathers; they're woefully underappreciated.

THIS.

They are coming back to Seattle in September and I cannot wait. Absolutely one of the best live performances I've ever seen. I always tell people if they ever get the chance to see them live they need to jump at it.
