I have no children and I am 44 year old woman so my enthusiasm for this is middling at best, I liked the movie as a kid and think it's got great music that I'm glad kids are getting to enjoy all over again
but you know that Black Ariel really bugs Ron Desantis and family so it really does raise my enthusiasm.
I'm in a similar boat but for different reasons. The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite childhood Disney movies (as an adult, I know that giving up her voice and her family to chase after a guy who she's never even spoken to is dumb, even for a teenager), and the live action Disney remakes have all looked disappointing. Those are the main reasons I am not super excited about this unnecessary version because I'm perfectly happy with the original.
BUT I know how mad Some People are about having a non-yt Ariel, so I am rooting for this movie to succeed and I have been enthusiastically posting about it every chance I get. And as someone who is not yt, I know how important diversity and representation are so I am totally here for this version of Ariel. Seeing all the videos of the little girls saying, "That's me!" while watching the trailer was so heart warming.
Honestly, if Halle hadn't been cast as Ariel, I would have no motivation to see this movie. But because she's in it, I'm going to give Disney some money just on principle.
