This is one of the original self-published success stories! And also one of the better self-published things, although I do love Senlin Ascends (also self-published fantasy/speculative).
I am gonna wait a few eps and then watch. My dad is also gonna sub to Apple+ when something he wants to see starts, so I'll probably just get his log in info.

In the books it's used to really amp up the social stratification - people generally don't leave their areas ever in their lives.
