This is going to be a very niche reference (though, ONTD is the only other place I've found in 18 years who has had anyone read these books), but that sounds like the plot of Time Stop For No Mouse.

[Spoiler (click to open)] If it involves a giant machine, potions that deage you, and being sewn into the skin of another being that looks the way yo want to, then it's exactly that but with people.
