I should see Polite Society before it leaves.

Haven't seen any movies lately, too busy with other stuff!! But my plans slow down a lot next week, so hopefully I can get to see AYTG?IMM then.

Going to see an early screening of Blackberry on Monday night with a Jay Baruchel/Glenn Howerton Q&A, so I'm looking forward to that.

I can't get to GotG til Tuesday because we have guests, so here's hoping I can remain unspoiled til then!!

I really enjoyed What's Love Got To Do With It?

It's heavy handed in some places but it makes good points about South Asian culture. I laughed at the ages thing because it's happened a lot with arranged marriages with guys I know who have married girls from Pakistan and it always seemed off.

Omg, I saw it and didn't like it at all! I really wanted to, but I hated the writing for Emma Thompson's character and also the subtle messaging that the white girl brings the brown family back together. Also as a South Indian, the movie lost me at the matchmaking scene when they used colourism as a joke. They could have left that bit out and it would have been so funny, but i didn't appreciate that at all.

Yeah Emma Thompson's characterisation was weird. Especially with some of the things she was saying when she was supposed to be quirky and it was mostly just...cringe in a lot of places.

Honestly the colourism thing was something I'd experienced so I thought it was quite true to life but I can see how that's where it lost you.

Really?

it started out strong, but wowza I really hated the ending. It would have been so nice for him to have stayed true to either/both parts of his heritage, but of course that didn't happen. would it be so scandalous to depict a happy ending with a brown Muslim person.

I watched Unrest earlier this year and I absolutely loved it. I've been meaning to read up on the anarchist movement of the time since then, but have no idea where to start and so... don't.
