Elizabeth Olsen's Love & Death Apparently Sympathizes With the Killer

Elizabeth Olsen is very good in LOVE & DEATH, an otherwise terrible and tasteless show that ponders the question: what if a suburban housewife deserved to get hacked to death with an axe and her killer was the real victim all along? https://t.co/0Tv1uzWHXr

Aren't Bettie Gore's children still alive?

All of this is terrible. More outlets need to call out this callous treatment.

Very much so, they're only in their 40s.

This is so disrespectful to them and the rest of Betty Gore's family.

They are, in the 40s now. They were basically abandoned by their dad after their mom was murdered, and from a few articles state, one named their daughter after Betty. They also weren’t consulted about either this show or Candy, and probably aren’t happy about either one.

You could tell by the promos that they wanted the audience to sympathize with the killer

It's obvious from the styling, even. That woman had a perm from the depths of Hell, and they have her looking like Miss Cutie Pie in all the promos.

it would have been so easy to change the names and just make it inspired by. still ugly, sure, but the less they purport this is reality, the better

I'm honestly so glad I never got into true crime, despite the fact that I absolutely adore well-done murder mysteries in fiction. Yes, there is a small part of me that is fascinated by killers and cases, but mostly I've found that the older I get, the less I can stomach humanity's capacity for cruelty towards each other.

Betty Gore's treatment in this show sounds sickening. I never want to forget that there are real people in murder cases whose loved ones hurt and miss them - not just names on a paper, motives, juicy scandals.

I think well done documentaries are legit, especially when they spotlight the police incompetence that often adds to the tragedy of a case or even a social issue that contributed to an incident. The fictionalizations though are mostly tawdry.

the last time I watched each of what you mentioned was Unbelievable and the Madeleine McCann series on Netflix and thankfully neither of them were exploitative, but what I meant was even when it's a fact-based, objective presentation of a case, I'm finding it harder and harder to learn about people's cruelty.

Oh I'm with you on that. Part of why I've been scaling back on socials has been the casual cruelty and nastiness, so I totally agree that hearing about actual murder/abuse is a lot.
