Brooke Shields has done several interviews about her new Pretty Baby documentary, but I found this one really interesting because as a fellow child star, Drew clearly relates a lot to Brooke's childhood, career, famil breadwinner status, momager situation, etc. Brooke also mentions that after the documentary aired, the director of The Blue Lagoon ( Read more... )

I saw a clip of this on twitter and it was so intimate and moving that they could confide in each other that way. Being from the same generation of celebrity and both of them from famous family situations clearly gave Drew the right insight to her headspace and it was clear Brooke could feel comfortable voicing what she hadn't been able to before

Someone in those comments also said Drew would probably be the perfect choice for the person to interview Britney if she ever gets to a space of wanting one and ITA.

I accidentally watched the second video first and it was so quiet that I thought Drew was interviewing her without a studio audience. It wasn't until later that I realized the audience was there. I really love that everyone was so respectful of the conversation (and how emotional it was for both Brooke and Drew) that that they were all so quiet.

It almost felt like a therapy session that we were being allowed to watch. I liked that Drew asked some really specific questions and that Brooke was not giving full details on certain things because she knows where her boundaries are (even though I'm a nosy bitch who of course wants all the details, I respect that there are things she still isn't ready to discuss publicly). It's okay to yadda yadda yadda the stuff that you don't want to talk about yet in cases like this.

He really showed how unhinged he was back then. Everyone thought he was nuts. I have no idea how he bounced back.

Seriously, Tom is such a loser. He is so adamantly anti-psychiatry, because of the aliens and probably (mostly) because of personal issues he will never address. He made a total ass of himself and I'm so glad that Brooke schooled him.

He probably had a crush on her in the early 80s

I'm really enjoying this new format in Drew's show and how she is creating a safe environment to have discussions that feel really intimate. She has been doing it this way for a few guests now and you can tell it's more about connecting than just promoting. I've only seen clips of this episode but I can't wait to see Brooke's documentary.

I'm okay with actors, musicians, etc. going on talk shows to promote their latest projects with anecdotes, but I really appreciate talk show hosts like this who can have an actual conversation with their guests, give them space to think/respond, really listen to them, and connect with them (in contrast, we have people like Jimmy Fallon who keep interrupting so they can ask the next prepared questions before his guest has even finished answering the previous question). I know not every guest is going to have such common experiences with the host like this particular example of Drew and Brooke, but I am glad that with all the press Brooke has been doing, she was able to have such a real conversation with Drew.

I saw a clip of Jason Ritter opening up about his alcoholism stemming from a question about how he got with Melanie and it was so emotional and real. Drew is very empathetic and it shows.

The whole interview she did with Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter was very sweet. I think I posted it in one of the Yellowjackets episode discussion posts (instead of making a separate post for the interview).

I think it also helps that she asks better/more personal questions. They’re often more like questions you would ask a new friend who you’re trying to get to know (as opposed to the very superficial questions that celebs are often asked during tv interviews). And it REALLY helps that she doesn’t interrupt or just rush to the next question. She lets them think before responding and if they need a few seconds of silence while they do that, she lets them have it.

talk shows are usually so cheesy but drew just pulls it off. she has such an infectious energy that makes her a joy to watch. i can see how she might come off as "too much" but i think she works so well in this talk show format and it's clearest in interviews like these that wouldn't work on any other talk show imo

I just finished watching Brooke's documentary a few hours ago. I thought it was fantastic. It's amazing how well-adjusted she has turned out despite everything she went through.
