They were artists in New York in the mid 90s. They were probably losing friends to AIDS and heroin at a good clip.

I was a teen then...its crazy how far we've come in some ways since the mid 90s and how stagnant in others.

Yeah my husband got a job working on clinical trials of AIDS drugs after we graduated from college in 1998, and it wasn’t that many years later that his old boss was scrambling to find something else to do because they’d made such great progress and were just sort of refining things.

I like how random their story is. She was one of the first people he met when he arrived in New York as a 18 year old. His new roommate (i think) was a friend of hers and he came along to see a movie with their group of friends and after they saw Woody Harrelson walking in the park. The rest of the group didn't know who he was so their little freak out bonded them. Then he moved to LA and they lost touch until the mid or late 2000s I think.
